Acupressure

Acupressure uses the same principles as acupuncture. See acupuncture Denver. Acupressure aids in healthy wellbeing, reduction of stress and healing from disease. It may be thought of as acupuncture without the needles. It is related to massage and massage therapy. There are several Eastern bodywork therapies, such as Shiatsu massage, which is a form of acupressure. Like acupuncture, points are identified that lie along channels of body energy. There are 12 major channels or meridians that connect with important organs. Illness occurs when one of these channels is not open. Acupuncture helps open channels by using the stimulation of needles. For acupressure, the same points are attended to and practitioners may use their palms or fingers, or even their elbows, knees or feet, or devices, to apply pressure. Clothing does not need to be removed. Besides opening blocked channels of energy, acupressure and other bodywork seek to balance yin (negative) energy and yang (positive) energy (like negative and positive ions, perhaps). Therapists may also transmit their own external life energy to another person. This is similar to what happens in group support sessions and with a motivational speaker: energy is passed to others whose supply is low for one reason or another, mental or physical. Some believe that the effect simply come from improved circulation, reduced tension or release of endorphins, which naturally relieve pain and give a sense of wellbeing.
